Kia Recalls Over 256,000 Souls For Steering Problem via CBS Philly

The recall covers certain Souls from the 2014 through 2016 model years.

DETROIT (AP) — Kia is recalling more than 256,000 Soul compactSUVs in the U.S. because the steering could fail.

The recall covers certain Souls from the 2014 through 2016 model years.

Kia says in documents filed with the government that the adhesive that holds steering gear parts together may not be strong enough and the parts can separate. That can cause loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

Kia found the problem after getting warranty reports from dealers. The company says no crashes or injuries have been reported. Dealers will inspect and replace a steering gear plug if necessary. They also will install a bolt for additional reinforcement. The recall is expected to start Dec. 22.

Delorean: this day in history: October 19, 1982

Nobody Move!

On this date in 1982, maverick auto executive John Z. DeLorean was arrested at a hotel near the Los Angeles airport. DeLorean was charged in connection with a $24 million cocaine transaction that he took part in to save his failing company. (Rumors that the $24 million in cocaine were needed to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity it takes to travel through time are, to this day, unconfirmed.) DeLorean maintained that he had been entrapped by an informant working for the FBI. The jury agreed, and Delorean was acquitted (even though his defense team had called no witnesses). His business, DeLorean Motors, wasn’t so fortunate. The British government, which had partnered with DeLorean in the venture, shut it down in November of 1982.

John DeLorean died of a stroke in 2005 at the age of 80.
